Default cam bearing fell out! what now?

installing a cam in a 6.0 (it is on a stand with heads and oil pan off) the #2 cam bearing fell out when putting the new cam in. Im hearing that the whole bottom end has to come apart for a machine shop to put new cam bearings in. Is this true? If not can i put new bearings in my self? how hard is it? Whats a normal price for a shop to install them?

I'd be more worried about why the bearing "fell out", they are normally a pretty stout press-fit. Sounds like your block might be junk...

This.

Call a machine shop and ask but I've always seen the bottom end apart.

I have a 2004 block and when I had a shop put in new bearings the very front and rear bearings were over sized from the factory. He had to order special sizes. Might be the same thing with yours

You can replace yourself. Get a cam bearing tool. Measure the OD of the bearing that came out & make sure that the one that replaces it is larger in OD. BTW, cam bearings pre-04 are different than cam bearings post 04 & they are specific to install location. So, you must pay attention to which bearing gets installed into which location. Someone may have installed the srong bearing in #2 previously.

Yes, you have to be very careful when buying & installing; to make sure of correctness.
