Default Help with LS6 valve springs

Help!! I ordered part number 12499224 which is supposed to a set of "yellow" 2002-2004 LS6 valve springs. What I got was a box of 16 blue springs, so I took them back thinking they were packaged wrong. They ordered another set and they are blue also. As far as I know the blue springs were for the 2001 LS6 and only good to around .550 lift, where the yellows are good to .570.

Has GM changed their coloring system? I am afraid to use these blue springs unless somebody can confirm they are the same specs as the yellows.....

I googled and search through the boards quite a bit before I placed the order. If you type 12499224 into google the very first thing that pops up is a picture of yellow valve springs. That part number is supposed to be for yellow springs. Why did I get 2 boxes of blue ones?

I just got back from the dealer. I stood right there while he called GM performance parts on speakerphone and they said GM has no criteria on paint colors. He said one day they might be pink, the next day the same springs might get painted yellow etc etc.

I am still skeptical. I am not going to use them on anything over .550 lift just in case......

Have a machine shop check them for you. They can check the spring rate. Fwiw the LS3 springs are the same as the yellow 02 Z06 springs.

That's a good idea. I'm glad I thought of it lol. I have some new yellow springs and I have a buddy who has a spring tester-I will have him test them and see if there is any difference between the blue and the yellow.

did you check the blue and yellow springs to see if they were the same
spring pressure at the correct height. I am having the same exact problem that you are. the guys at gm performance have no clue when they say that they paint some springs pink or different colors. they are colored for a reason.

I am in the same boat. Just ordered that part number from summit and on their screen it had a pic of the yellow springs and said good to .570 lift but when I opened the box they were blue. If anyone confirms they are the same, post it up!

I ordered GM parts thru Scoggins-Dickey back in 2003 and seems the Z06 springs were yellow striped. The parts were single packaged and said " Made in Germany" These were the good stuff and GM said they were good for 100K miles. They are still in the car, working fine.

Guys, there was a thread somewhere (another site) about this a while back, I'll dig it up and try to find it in a bit.

End of story, they are the SAME EXACT SPRING, it's just that they are now blue in color, no longer yellow.

PERIOD.

EDIT: here's an ad for a single spring, Z06, .570 lift, NOT YELLOW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-Pe...Q5fAccessories

and here's a thread (pg 2) talking about the color and the way GM changes part #'s and paint schemes like underwear

http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/to...art-confusion/

The last few paragraphs sum it up nicely
