Default G5X3 in 404 Stroker

I tryed searching and couldnt realy find any info... Im building a 404 with AFR 225 heads, 11:5:1 compression, Fast 102 intake... will I be leaving alot of power on the table if I just use my G5X3 cam that already have in my ls1? It made good power in the 346 (419rwhp cam only) but I know its on the smaller side for a stroker...

Thanks

404 eh? Damn all that just to keep up with the baby truck and a little 5.3? I dont know but I would say its still gonna make pretty good power. Will have alot better mid range and usable hp. More power under the curve thats what its about. Not peak numbers

Yep might as well do it right while the motor is out.

Well if you want to do it right why would you put that G5X3 cam in your motor? These off the shelf cams like that were designed for the 346ci LS1. Not for a bigger cubed engine like what you are building. You spend all that money to just leave power on the table? Do it right man contact one of the sponsors on here and have them custom spec you a cam for your application and goals. Trust me it will be worth it. BTW Geoff over at EPS along with Patrick G is the hottest thing going right now with custom cams. Give Geoff a call and see what he can do for you.

You dont need a huge cam to make big power...or even a custom grind...check this link. Its an off the shelf, stock cubes LSR cam with LSL lobes from Comp. Its in a 427ci motor and everyone on this board, almost, would say the cam is way to small and your leaving too much on the table. This guys numbers are great and i bet the car is still very very streetable. Plus this cam is roughly the same size as the G5X3 but on different lobes. I have a friend who's old car ran mid 10's with a stalled 4L80e, 408ci, and a G5X3...and it was nice to drive and still sounded mean.

The g5x3 is a great cam,i had it in a ls1. You can run the x3 cam if you want. You will leave some power behind running it.The 404ci can take more cam and drive just the same. I had vengeance racing gring me a cam up for my 402ci. if it's power you want, sell the x3 cam and get something better suited for what your needs are. My cam is a 248/256 in my 402 right now ground by vengeance. it drives great around town and helped me run 10.6 n/a in the 1/4mi. made 530hp 470tq on a mustang dyno.

I'd get Patrick G to spec you out one. My favorite cam designer is Chris Straub..Straub Technologies.

FWIW: I run a cam close to G5X3 specs - maybe even a little smaller. WAY different lobes than the G5X3 but duration close.

There's an old quote about cams that says - the smallest cam that gets the job done is usually the right one.

Mine is conservative build but well executed.

Numbers in sig.
