Default cam swap

I am in the middle if a cam swap and found a nice comp cam. cca-54-472-11 243/259 .624/.624 this cam seems to be a good cam. Can i put this cam in without flycuttin my pistons, i know with the MS4 cam u dont and thats a .649 lift. The car is stock.

Ms4 cams are a hit and miss. Most cases I've seen flycutting is necessary. That comp cam is way too big for a stock cubed ls1 imo.

You really need to look at duration when it comes to piston to valve contact. And the exhaust duration on that cam is too much for stock heads

oh ok thanks, i didnt know that. so MS4 cam kit it is. that cam kit is $700, has anybody put their own MS4 cam kit together that was cheaper. i even call texas speed and with the MS4 cam they give u springs rated at .650 lift and the cam is .649 lift, why not give us the springs rated at .675 lift.

Man, I would just get the kit that they offer you. It's not a good idea to go "cheaper" IMO. Do it right, the first time.

Also, the biggest cam isn't always the best cam. What other mods do you have?

Even if you decide to go with the MS4, it's STILL a good idea to measure ptv clearence.

Not true. There are plenty of people running that cam in their DD. It all depends on how good his tuner is.

with stock 241 heads i would highly recommend the torquer v2 cam, easy on valve train plus runs hard!!!
u don't even need to rev it to 7k rpms like the ms4 cam

LS2 single chain is fine. I would run a lil smaller cam but to each his own... On my old 346 I thought a lower 230s cam was just about right....nice bottomend and carried good power to 6500+

do not use the comp cam that u mentioned it is way too big and not only have ptv problems but your car would be a dog
a ms4 is good if you dont mind being extreme and are ok with a not as good driveability
but if your not, go with a 228 through 234 sized cam good power and good driveability
