Default dirty motor...will i be okay running this?

i think this motor went scuba diving. i bought an ls6 intake, and so today i took off the ls1 intake and this is what i find...

that's right kids, i have grime, twigs, and leave wedged in my motor

is this normal? well maybe not this bad, but why would it get THIS dirty under the intake?

well spent some time scrapping that **** off with a flathead and figured i might as well take off the valley cover and wash it while i'm here. (bad idea) well i'm glad i did now.

there was smurfing WATER in that knock sensor hole and both knock sensors look like smurfs. at least the cam doesn't look too bad.

discuss....
make me feel better...

any reason i should buy an ls6 valley cover? or should i just look for another ls1? gonna buy two ls1 knock sensors, and hopefully find a newer knock sensor harness while i'm at it.

oh yeah forgot this....holy SMURF!!!!

this is why i wanted a newer LS2. oh well. (just please last me 2 years)

About what I found on both of mine. Just hang it on the engine stand, flip it upside down, and be liberal with a couple of cans of carb cleaner. Spray it up into the intake ports, generously. I used the Wal-Mart brand, it worked wonders. Be sure to use a drip tray.

You'd be amazed how many of the LS1 particularly running around out there look like that! Since it's out of the car, I'd agree with using an engine stand and turning it upside down (loosen rockers so valves are shut) and cleaning at it!

I loosened my rockers, and I don't recommend it.
Don't forget the safety glasses! This isn't worth going blind over
