Default HELP!! Not building oil pressure TWICE in my LS6!

Ok so happen 2 times already . First time normal driving , then I park the car for about 3 hrs . Got in it to start it and no oil pressure. So assumed pump went out. My motor is a LS6 motor out of a 2004 Z06. So it was a stock ls6 pump. When ever they took the pump out, the opened it to see what went wrong . There was nothing at all wrong with the pump, it was perctly fine. I already had a new TSP ported Ls6 pump so we just put that in and ran good again.
Well month in a half later, yesterday same thing . Normal driving . Park it for like 30 min. Went back and no oil pressure again. Both times the car has oil in it but its just not moving. People say could be the oil pressure sensor. But what would the sensor have to do with it building pressure if the sensor is just to mark if there is pressure or not right? Or am I wrong? Any help at this time would help cause I'm starting to give up on this thing cause its always breaking for no reason ... story of my life with all the damn cars I had... smh...

Well the sensor is actually a sending unit. It sends the info to your gauge cluster which is prob what your looking at to figure out you have no pressure.

The sending units are not unusual to give out and just go bad. May want to just try and replace the sensor first and see if that fixes it.

Sounds like an issue with the pressure sensor or wiring.

I would agree that it seems like the sending unit.
YOu can start the car, take off the oil fill cap, shine a flashlight in there and look at the rockers you should see oil on top of them, if you slowly raise the RPM you should see more, this should tell you if youhave oil moving around.

When ever I turn the car on u can hear the lefters and rockers really loud like when ever u have no oil moving around, that's what I'm trying to say. But when u turn the car off and check for oil , it shows it has oil in it.

Question is , Does the sensor tell the pump when to work and when not too??

absolutely not. the pump turns when the motor turns. it is not dependant on electronics.

It sounds as if you are not getting oil to the heads or atleast not enough. You shouldn't have valvetrain noise.

The oil pump is driven off of the nose of the crankshaft. As soon as that engine is running the oil pump is being driven by the crank.

Triple check the obvious like your oil level. Sounds like you defnitely have a oil pressure problem.

How many miles on this engine? Been rebuilt?

I would say your oil pressure sending unit is fine and your oil pressure gauge isnt lying to you.

if your oil pickup tube isn't lined up perfect to the oil pump then you will have little to no oil pressure too, wouldn't hurt to check that

Motor has about 25k on it not that much , will the swapping of transmissions have anything to do with it. Not that long ago I put a built 4l60e in it. What I was thinking is maybe not enough clearance? Since everything is basitly alined in the same row from the crank , too much line pressure is may e cause the trans to jurk foward causing the pump to be pushed and stopping it? Don't know if that makes sence lol.

What I also notice that this happened both times after running the car hard. First time after doing couple passes at the track , the next day the pump gave out. Then this time we had a cruise on Sunday and of course we did some fun runs so it was some hard runs also. Then again happened the next day ...

What would cause the pick up tube to move?

u said u have no pressure after the car sits for 3 hours or so. did u ever start it later on and get the pressure back? maybe it has to do with the oil getting too hot when the car sits for a while

I had let it sit there for couple hrs , car is at the shop right now just sitting there . Was going to try to figure out what to do before messing with it . I could try to start it or see if I flip the key foward and the oil pressure builds up. ....

if you changed the oil pump you would have had to take off the pickup tube

pull the PCM fuse and just crank the car over and see if oil pressure builds

WHY? He already knows that he has a oiling problem. He has valvetrain noise.

Faulty oil pressure gauge/sending unit sure isnt causing that.

At work I have a inspection camera that has a flexable head that will fit into a 1/2" hole. We use it to look in pipes and valves. You can get the same tool to look into a spark plug hole. If that was my motor I would be renting one of those camera's and looking at my pickup screen and oil pan thru the oil drain plug. You don't have to pull an oil pan just to know what's inside.

I have heard of guys pinching the O ring in the pick up tube before. Probably something with the pick up tube such as it's alignment or position. I'm interested in finding out what this is as well, since I had a similar issue before I decided to replace my internals. I never did find out what the actual culprit was but am guessing piched O ring in the pick up tube. subscribing.
