Default stroker cam?

my projest is a ls1 383. when i asked some people about cam choices they said shouldnt you look into a stroker cam. before then i was recomended a 234 242 114 cam. Now i dunno if i need to go with a special cam since it will be bored and stroked or will any cam work and give me the most usable power from my engine?

if it matters i have 5.3 heads ported and milled with dual springs and upgraded stock rockers and chromoly pushrods. everything has been clearenced to fit bigger valves ect.

with a 383 a big cam that 346 guys consider big is not as big . of course the cam you mentioned is not exactly a small one . i would clay the pistons with the cam wanted and see if you can get fit something a bit larger . that said you got a good cam for that setup . many variables involved finding the right combo so just try it or clay it then go from there on the cam selection .

thats what i was thinking cuz not only is it a little smaller than an ms3 but my engine will be bigger than tall the people who recommended me that.
just to be sure a "Stroker" would be a large cam nothing fancy about it?

right , just as some folks think they got hemi in a challenger when the hemi engine was a 426 not the 38x , 440 six pack or regular 440 .
lost in translation , a stroker cam can be a stroker cam but in your case just a bigger cam to go with bigger valves , bigger pistons , increased stroke etc...
just watch out on the stroke effect as the rpms increase with incresed stroke and could be fatal to rods trying to do same rpm done in the unstroked .
hope this helps

there you go . always room for improvement man . think you got a good combo already though . if not might want to go custom on the cam to go in synch with such a custom engine .
good luck with your build and be sure to let me know how it turns out brother !

Just look at it this way, I ran a Trickflow 238/242 .595/.595 112LSA cam in my 346, it was on the big side. When I went to my 408 stroker I pulled the cam out of my stock cube short block and used it... in my stroker it had the manners of a small 224 cam and dropped the power band way down.
So when you hear "stroker cam" all they are saying is "bigger"

You might even want to look into the ms4 with your extra cubes it would be little more tame... right now I'm rebuilding mine and dropping in a 255/261 .624/.624 115lsa

I went with a 247/256 for my 383 and the driveablity is the same as the 346 with the 230 grind if not better.
