Default Should I replace the oil pump????

I have a trans am with 92000 miles. I am getting ready to do a heads/cam install. I have 55psi of oil pressure while riding down the interstate and about 45 at idle. I cant decide if I should spent the time and money on a new oil pump when I already have great oil pressure?????

what year is your car ? From what I understand, some of the older LS1's had crappy oil pumps. When my heads go on I will be going with a new pump for piece of mind.

I would do it, if you don't you'll always be watching that oil pressure guage and waiting...wondering.

You might as well with that many miles on yours. It's not that bad to do either. I say, do it

your're going to be right there. i would definantly do it. i paid $120 for a mellings LS6 pump awhile ago. make sure you replace the o-ring too!! when your doing a h/c it would suck if 500 miles later your pump takes a ****, then you gotta do it all over again

Do it. Melling M295 or 10295 would be good choices.

the 1997-2000 had some bad pumps in them and would either fail or would slowly die, the stock pump is also only rated up to 6000 rpm and the 01-02 pump is rated to 6200 rpm, after that you are starving your motor. the best bet is to shell out the $150 for a new ported one and have that piece of mind that your car will be well lubed through all the abuse you are about to put it through.

My car is an 01 so I have the better pump...I just did not know if it was required with existing great pressure. The car is just a weekend driver and very rare track use

I just found the pump above with do yall think? it was recommended by o1ssreda4

M295 is a stock replacement pump. 10295 is a Select Series high pressure pump. Oil pumps are wearable items to a degree, and getting 100k out of one is great and all, but replace it for piece of mind. Its not like its not coming off anyway.

My stock pump failed @ 55k miles after 20k miles of driving on the H/C setup. Save yourself from building a new motor by spending the $125(ish) now.

I would replace it for peace of mind, as I did on mine. It's a ton of trouble to get back in there to replace it. Do it while you're in there.

Personally i think you will be just fine with the one you have. But for peace of mind i would do it. Your pressure is fine but you are wanting more flow. Just because you have 100lbs of pressure does not mean it is adequite if you dont get enough volume. I would get a ported ls6 one and you can install a higher pressure spring if you would like.
