Default Removing cover beneath intake?

My son is getting ready to pull the heads tomorrow and change out the lifters, bit he also wanted to get a good look at the cam to make sure it isn't damaged. Can he remove the cover in the picture below and visually inspect it there or does he have to pull it out from the front to have a look?

Thanks!

If you don't want to remove the cam, you can pull the heads, lifters, and trays then look at the cam from above. That's if you were going to remove the heads anyway.

By the way, we don't make a habit of locking threads just because a question has been answered.

like pat said your son is removing the heads and changing the lifters so with a flashlight look in there and turn the crank pulley and should see the cam turning and you can inspect the lobes

Yeah with the valley cover off you can only see about half the lobes. I think it was an honest question. I take pride in how nice and helpful people tend to be on this forum compaired to many others. I would like to see it stay that way.

Just inspect the rollers on the lifters. If there was an issue with a cam lobe it would show up here.

Thanks so much everyone. I appreciate all of the help. I was very active on this forum years ago when I had my own LS1 and my son was much younger. Now he's seventeen and its his turn to have all of the fun with his own car!

I am in a wheelchair and cannot contribute much to the physical process so that's why I'm doing the research and asking the questions.

Thanks again everyone.
