LS1 comp cams?
As the tittle says i'm looking at 2 different comp cams, the 222/224 112 lsa and the 228/230 112 lsa cams and doing heads to match as well as new pistons and rods on the standard crank.
Just wondering if anyone as any of these cams in an ls1 and what its like in general.
I currently have a 218/224 114 lsa cam and just about to install it but thinking about giving the motor a freshen up and go a bit bigger cam as going to do heads when replace lifters while there off, any help greatly appreciated, already have the valve springs, pushrods, double row timing chain to go in.
What else will i need and what brands are good to use?
Thanks Ben.

I would go a bit bigger to take advantage of the better flowing heads and the fact that you will have a fresh bottom end capable of revving to 6800-7000 reliably. I love my 232/234 112lsa "torquer2" and it has alot more potential than it shows in my motor as we only revved to 6000 to get the numbers in sig.
You are going to need to add head gaskets to your list. the gm mls gaskets are cheap and work great.
The stall speed will be up to you. If you are not planning on racing i wouldn't get too crazy with it, but if you don't go high enough the car will be sluggish. Your best bet would be to call one of the sponsors that builds and sells converters and ask for a reccomendation.

yeh thanks for that, yeh that's what i was thinking as doing the heads when i do cam and change lifters, so thought i may as well give it a freshen up and go the whole way, the texaspeed 228r cam sounds good too and the comp cam xer cams, lots of choices, haha i like the 224-230 range area of cams just got to work out which one to get.
yeh been told to go the factory gaskets and bolts.
not sure which oil pump to get either.

I like the Melling 10296.... don't get the 10295
The 10296 is a true hv hp pump and has counter sunk bolts to help with the front timing cover clearance if you run a double roller chain

yeh thanks for that, the melling 10296 pump seems to a popular and proven one from what iv seen and read, i was looking at that one, yeh have a double row timing chain for it so that will be perfect then.
A couple of places have said they can rebuild and modify the factory one for me, but i think i'll get a new hv oil pump, especially as going the whole way.
