Default Ls2 timing chain damper too small?

I just set the damper I received in the spot it will be going and it doesn't even touch the chain...? Is it the wrong damper? Or am I doing something wrong?

Its not supposed to rub the chain. Its only there in case the chain decides to whip around a little at high rpm. If it touched all the time the chain would chew it up in no time.

X2. Lucky you for having a damper, road-racing broke my chain causing a bit of damage,
