did i blow up my ls1??
i changed my oil yesterday, switched from mobel one to castol edge for the first time. this evening i was driving it hard as normal. after stopping and turning at a light, i ran first gear up to 3500 rpm, and then ran second up to say 4k, and then i hammered it in second... when all of a sudden a clanking and load exhaust noise. and rpm's dipped to 3oo ish????
I let right off and killed it, coasted with engine off till i was off then main road. After crawling around with a flashlight looking for any signs of death. all looks fine. so i start it up.. very loud internal grinding. with loud exhaust noise coming from driver side. i killed it and called a flat bed.
i get it home and take a good look around, only to find nothing. so i pulled the driver side valve cover assumming a valve spring has broken or a valve has bent, push rod etc. nothing i can see looks damaged??? my car only has 59k miles on it. its a 2002ws6. so its not high miles?? and thoughts??
thanks stunna..

So did i... It could be several things, I would start by checking rockers, valve springs, and pushrods. If you see no signs dig deeper, pull the head and look at the pistons and lifters.

Very bad news... after work I rushed home to diag. i pulled both valve covers to inspect springs etc. all looked good. Everything looks good.
so i decide to try and turn it over by hand to see if there were any issues.. well It rotates about 1 crank rotation until it hits a hard spot, and stops.
so im like, oh great.. so I then look around on the back side in the block.
I cant beleave it, I have holes all around in my bellhousing.. like something let loose and rotated just bashing around inside the bell housing clutch area??
So the engine is more than likely fucked, and my t56 and clutch is probly ruined aswell. any ideas what could have caused something in the clutch area to blow up at the same time...... im pretty sad right about now......

Sounds like the clutch exploded. Only thing left to do is start yankin. If you got good oil pressure, and being the car has low milage; I'd bet the engine is alright. But to be sure yank the trans and remove clutch and plate and turn over by hand again and see if it is still tight. If it aint try starting the engine and see if there is still noise. Good luck Bud......

You are not going to know until you drain the oil and look for shards. Your best bet. DRAIN THE OIL. LOOK FOR METAL SHAVINGS. If you don't see any remove the tranny and try to rotate the engine by hand like stated before and then try cranking it. I am sure that once you check the oil, the skies will part, a white dove will descend, as angels sing.

You should prob check the fluid in the rear next. Since your doing this *** backwards. If that's not the case make sure your tire pressure is set properly. If all else fails check the washer fluid level or left front inner brake pad for wear.
*DO NOT DRAIN THE OIL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!

I don't think its that big of deal that he pulled the valve cover first... I did the same when my motor popped, it was obvious that something had failed because of all the noise. So instead of further proving that there was a problem, i started tracking it down.
