can n stall, would you buy it???
Ok guys, Long story short... i have the chance to buy a used can n stall from someone local to me. They are a TCI 3500 stall and a comp cam grind # XER 273-14 224/230@.050 with 581/592 lift on 114 lca. He wants 400 for both or 150 for cam only. I daily drive this car and it wont, I repeat wont see the track as I dont live anywhere near one. I usually find most races done from a kickdown around 65-75 ( just where it happens ).The car is a 99z a4 3.23 with full exh, ls6 int, pp/tb and air lid with frost mail order tune. is this a good cam for me? Is TCi a decent brand stall? Could I run this cam without a stall if off the line neck snapping launches isnt a big concern? I run 315 street tires and drag radials are out of the question. I dont think heads are doable for me in the near future, if so they would only be like ported 243's or similar, not afr or any top brand head as they cost too much to justify. I will also be staying with the ls6 intake too if that matters. A cam recommendation is ok too if anyone has one to suggest. It just needs to be fun to drive on the street with nice flat torque curve as I have heard those are better for a street car.

I would be a little leary about buying a used cam. You never really know if it is any good till you get it. Even a buying a used stall is a gamble. Mine stall was used, but I brought it from my good friend. However, if you are dead set on it, then that seems like a decent cam. I personally wouldn't run a stock stall on it. Also, you will need to get it retuned.

well I know the guy pretty well, just havent seen or raced him in a long time. The cam is only 15 miles from me and I could visually inspect it before buying, I was just wondering if this one would be a good one for what Im wanting to use the car for. I talked to geoff and he said I could run his 222/226 113 cam without a stall and see how i liked it. I was gonna go this route till this other cam came up for sale. it would save me $250 thats why the intrest. I also know another guy that has a used tsp228r 112 cam for $200 but am undecided if a cam big enough to warrant a stall is ideal for me or not... Thanks for atleast posting a reply though.

If you're doing a cam I would say do a stall as well. I bought my cam and stall used and haven't had no issues. Mines a 233/239 and a 3600 stall.. Only been on the dyno and then the first run on the street the trans broke. That is something to consider as well.

hows the takeoff with street tires. I have driven a 228r cammed car with a yank 3500 stall and it was a bit too much stall for street tires. It didnt take off as good as a stock stall and then would just blow the tires off when pedal was mashed down, thats what I dont want to happen...

i say go for it as long as the cam looks good. but remember all the things that should go with the cam, springs and pushrods. if its someone you know well, if you put that stall in, and it doesnt work, pull it and take it back. both of those mods will help considerably. but what was said above is good info..

I say pick it up. It's only $450. Then pick up some PAC springs for $130 and pushrods for another $100. Then alittle bit more for the small stuff. You will have less than $1000 into it and have all the parts you need for install!
