Default What cam to get/gains to expect?

Hey guys, I'm planning on doing a round of engine mods pretty soon and I've decided what I want I'm going to get on everything except cam.

Mods:
Hooker LTs
Custom Y-pipe (Hi-flow cats, FM merge, dbl cutouts before cats)
LM1 resonator
SLP lid
LS6 intake (possibly a FAST in the future, but unlikely)
90mm TB
SLP UD pulley

It's an M6 car that I'll be driving every day and hitting the track maybe twice a year. I'd like it to be pretty street friendly, but I still want a good bit of under curve power and a pretty mean lope. Heads are certainly in the future, but it will be a considerable amount of time before I bite that bullet.

Anyway, my question is, what sort of cam would you guys recommend?

Your best bet is to have a someone like PatrickG Spec a cam out for you. Or you can even pm Jon@TSP and lay it out for him and he can recommend one for ya or custom grind one to fit your desires

How high do you want to rev it? Do you want more power down low or up high? What times are you wanting to run with the cam?

Prolly around 5700. More power up high without completely trashing low-end power.
I was hoping to get mid to high 12s.

I don't have the listed mods yet. I'm doing all of this at the same time. All that's on my car now is the lid and the UD pulley.

Also what should I do for springs/pushrods? I'm looking at the 228/232 111 LSA on TSP and was wondering if I should get one of their spring/pushrod packages while I'm at it.

I'm guessing .600" springs since I'm on stock heads/valves. What pushrod length?

I don't know just a ton about cams, but I don't want to overdo it. Please don't think I'm questioning your knowledge, I just want to be sure.

I see you live in Cullman.
Do you have this cam with a similar setup? If so I'd like to hear how it sounds/drives. I live near Huntsville and could meet you if you wouldn't mind showing me.

That is the cam I might go with. Either that or a 228r. You should just get the kit from tsp. And Since that cam has .588 lift I would definetly go with the springs good to .650 lift. .600 springs are cutting it to close in my opinion.

How far can I go before I have to worry about piston-valve clearance? I'm sure I'm not even close, but just curious.

And no this is a really good dd cam. It should not be that hard to tune and you won't have t rev it very high. It def wouldn't be overdoing it.

this. should give you power/tq all over.

peak hp should be just shy of 400, peak tq should be in the 380's. if we are talking about EPS lobes. if XER lobes then it would be around 38X hp and 37X tq.

edit: if the cam u chose doesn't go over .600 then single springs and ti retainers would be ideal IMO. dual springs and retainers add weight to the valve train. do some research and talk to some pro's before purchasing. there is a thread listed in one of the stickies in this section that talks about spring weights and their effect on valvetrain stability. read it.

I agree too. 228/232 is a good all aroung cam. not too big, will make power and still drive nice at wall mart.

You dont need a cut out with a LM1. The resonator does nothing, its an empty can.

I have a feeling with only the LM1 I'll be deciding to invest in a real catback to put behind it. I've heard a lot about how obnoxiously loud it is and, while I want my car to sound like it commands authority, I want to be able to drive more than 4 minutes without getting a migraine.

Looking at your sig, do you have any sound clips? You have pretty much the same thing.

I read the cam guide, and was planning on single springs, just wanted to double check on the size.

I don't remember seeing anything about EPS or XER lobes. Can you link a thread or tell me more, plz?
