Default 232/240 @50 595/609 LIFT 113LSA +4 & P/V Clearance

I bought a new custom comp cam off the boards...

(232/240 @50 595/609 LIFT 113LSA +4)

It is going to be paired with Patriot Performance 5.3 Stage 2's...that i believe are unmilled (will have to check with seller). The cam looks like someone was trying to mirror the G5X2, with just a slightly wider LSA...

Would there be any reason the valve would be closer to the piston in a 5.3 head rather than a 5.7 head?

No, as long as the heads aren't milled, the clearence should be the same.

you will need valve reliefs with that cam.

I think you will need reliefs. I am running something kinda similar and when I checked with clay on my 5.7's milled .030 the valves went just a hair into the reliefs on an undecked block.

There is nothing wrong with buying a custom grind. Sometimes people get caught up in the moment with the "New" Cam of the month. Sometimes changing a cam up a little for your set up is benificial, and if you do it properly you will definately see a larger gain in HP. In no way am i Kicking any cams, but i dont think there is anything wrong with running an "off " Cam.

You will have to get valve reliefs cut into your pistons with that cam.

I really think you will need to cut reliefs. I wouldn't just hope it clears unless you don't mind leaving it apart until you can get the tool to cut some reliefs.

We used a 232/237 598/605 on a 113 +4 in one of the cars up at the shop for experimental reasons and it picked up a whopppping 75rwhp and 40lbtq. Needless to say we use that cam alot now.

No we do not have to cut the pistons and we are even angle milling the heads. The last Z06 we put this cam in with our CNC heads made 496/421 SAE with belts and borla stingers.

With the plus 4 in the cam it should be fine. I have a similar cam with plus 2 ground in and is fine p/v clearance. Mine was checked in a mock up motor.

Good luck

i had a couple people pm me asking if it cleared...

we clayed the #2 piston and put on the old head gaskets, new heads, valvetrain...i layed down a relatively thin layer (much more than .080) and turned over the motor a few times. the valves never touched the clay, so i felt confident the clearance was fine. got the install done early in the am sunday...car has been running since...only problems ive had is surging caused by dirty 02 sensor connections...and also an SES light because of the map sensor (p0106) which it occasionally threw with the old cam as well...

i used stock 02+ tri metal gaskets, UNMILLED Patriot 5.3's, 232/240 .595 .608 113+4 comp xer custom grind...

car pulls hard much harder than it did when it went 11.8 @ 116 cam only with the smaller 228/230 .571 .571 112+2

will post dyno results when i make a trip up to dallas shortly...

I haven't seen anybodys head flow numbers to warrant a camshaft with more lift on the exhaust lobe over the intake lobe on an LS1 or LS6. Cam should be good for put a good 30Hp out the exhaust pipe.

Chris

im going to spray a 150 shot on top of the heads/cam...

the big exhaust duration/lift should work well...
