Default What Engine Oil To Use?

I've been using Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w-30 in my '01 Z28 for three years now. I've been wondering if I should change to a different weight, 5w-30 seems a little thin considering I live in IL and only drive it during the spring, fall, and summer when there's no snow on the ground. In the winter I drive my POS beater, a Plymouth Reliant with over 300K miles on it(It just won't die, it's indestructible!).

i switched to 10w-30synthetic(was using 5w-30 dino oil) about two years ago and have had no problems.in fact,my oil consumption dropped quite a bit.

I use Redline 10w30 cause, well, it's the best. Nothing wrong with Mobil one at all. (I'd use 10w30 for sure though)

The GM LS1 crate motor installation guide specifies 10W-30 synthetic oil. Kinda interesting what the General likes when CAFE standards aren't involved.

Patman seems to like the German-made variant of Castrol Syntec 0W-30, and so do I now that I'm using it. My '02 Silverado is quieter than it was with Amsoil 5W-30, and the LS1 I just finished swapping into my '82 Z28 is nice 'n quiet also. When I hit the road course this season, I'll be running Mobil Delvac-1 5W-40.

ROYAL PURPLE IS THE ONLY OIL I HAD IN MY CAR AND I MADE OVER 440HP ON A MILD TUNE, STAGE 2 MTI HEADS AND AN X1..MY CAR (if the truck driver didn't think it was a parking spot) would still be making this HP @ over 110,000 miles.

Go the 10-30. Mobil is good. AMSOIL is best. But go with the 10-30.

My top recommendations are German Castrol 0w30, Redline 5w30 or Amsoil 0w30 or 5w30.

I was using that in my LT1 last year actually, and also tried their 5w30. I got good results, but have gotten better results since switching to the 0w30 Castrol.

I have seen an LS1 oil analysis running Schaeffer 10w30 though and it looked incredibly good, it had very low engine wear.
