Default Those running melling high pressure/volume oil pump please come in!

Have you had any issues with your high pressure/volume melling oil pump? How many quarts of oil are you running with your stock oil pan? read of possibly running the oil pan empty. also how long have you been running your pump?
Thanks Raul

Which are you running, their high pressure or high volume pump?

I'm running a 10296 (high volume) utilizing the stock pan and 6.5 quarts. I have never cavitated the pump due to inefficient oil supply.

I am, however, having issues with fluctuating oil pressure (Delta P = 7-10 PSIG), but I don't think it is directly related to the Melling pump.

Could be the extra quart of oil. From what I've read most only run a 1/2 quart over.

Agreed, we have done alot of testing with them and have not had issues with oil return with the 10295 pump you have! For that matter, it has only been some VERY severe testing at high-rpm and for extended lengths of time that we'd had any issues with the high-volume 10296 pump.

At high-RPM for extended periods of time it will pump more to the top end than can return on a stock oiling system. With a few modifications though, that can me remedied to a certain extent.

Hey Matt,
Which pump are you guys using on your TSP25-427LS7LB long block packages? Your site says "ported oil pump". Is a Melling or ported GM?

That's the ported GM LS6 pump.

Thanks. What are your thoughts on a Melling 10296 on that engine package? Worthwhile?

Both are nice pumps...just be aware of the clearance issues with the Melling pumps, particularly on double roller timing sets.

No issues with my Melling 10296 high volume, running 6.5 quarts of oil which is the factory specified volume on my LS6.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but what's easiest way to remedy that?

I had planned on running a 10295, but let a vendor talk me into a 10296 since they didn't have any of the 10295's in stock. I have a stock shortblock heads/cam car, and I think I'm running into this issue whenever I do any spirited driving for more than a few minutes at a time.
