Default What is this? 56k stayaway

Did an oil change, found this little gem in the drain pan. Obviously not needed atm for my car to run, but I can only imagine the horror/hell I am in for when it does ! Anyone know what it is? Is there hope ?

Interesting looking little thing......

Piece of the lifter seems the most obvious. Not many things inside the engine that look like that.

Its really hard to tell since its been deformed so much. At some point in time your engine will let you know what it is unless you want to dig into it and start looking around.

Ok well, first you need to get a diagram of AN LS1 ENGINE and match it up to something that size. thats my first suggestion, i tried to think what it could be but i cant easily tell you. 2nd do you think the piece was circular at anytime? and 3rd. Did you ever think of the possibility that the object may have entered your engine externally rather then internally. If you look at the ends it doesnt look like it was broke off or the edges would be jagged maybe they are and I jus cant tell but it doeesnt look like it from this end, also the outskirts of it look undamaged as well as in, it doesnt look like it was broken off just scraped up from the inside of your engine. You can also see the piece is shiny making it a fairly new object. Thats what I think but you need to definitely get a FULL BREAKDOWN of the LS1 engine and try to match it up before you go any further if you cant find anything after continuously looking it over then go ahead and unplug your fuel injectors and crank it over and listen for any odd sounds. If your still skeptical about doing that then throw it in neutral and crank it over by hand. if nothing then let us know. You can also take your heads off and do some more checking, also the piece doesnt really look weak or it will be smashed flat so if its not weak how was it able to break off in the first place it can be a number of things but just trying to give you a starting point and a few things to think about. good luck.

Its looks a little like a part of a bypass spring from the inside of an oil filter.

That maybe the case, I always undo filter and let it drop into the drain pan, so this is something that could have been on top of or in the oil filter. Guess I could cut the filter into 1/2's and see if there is more or a missing piece.

The only mods I have done internal are a cam, patriot double spring kit, harden PR's, LS6 ported oil pump, and timing chain.

not much help, but I'll help eliminate the lifter retainer. . . If I were to GUESS, I would guess something along the lines of helicoil from the drain plug. . .

kodak z740, it has no manual focus, so I took a bunch and got these. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless you get it for free.
