Some came with the LS6 block, not entire engine. Its been said about 25%

Look on the driver side of the car, on the rear of the engine block pad.

LS6 12561168

LS1 12559378

^^^yep, its the bottom end only. No LS6 cam or heads though. Block number will tell the story.

Pretty sure the rotating assembly is identical. The only difference is the block casting. It has some revisions for better internal crankcase breathing I know for sure. There are probably some other minor difference as well.

From what I have read it has windows on each end of the block, inside the valley, that you can see the cam through.
I don't know if an LS1 block has those, but I know for sure that an LS6 does.

it has the ls6 block part number. Same as inlet and exhaust manifolds. But for some reason it came from factory with ls1 241 heads.

That's because it's an LS1 per GM RPO code.

The blocks have bay to bay breathing windows going through right above the mains, ostensibly to improve windage with the deep skirt block.

Which makes the LS6 blocks one of the weaker choices after you reach a certain level of power, maybe 700@ the crank??

Yep, for sure. Aluminum blocks move around as it is, that's certainly not going to help things, lol.

I've had two 2002 z28s the first one had the LS6 block the second one did not. The one with the LS6 block was a bit quicker but it also had 323 gears the other car has 273 so that's useless for you. However I can tell you every other vehicle made from 2002 on that was optioned with the LS1 I know the Corvette and the 04 GTO did. These all came with the "LS6" block and 241 heads. Just the last and best version of the standard 5.7 I guess. It's only special if someone's willing to pay for that specialty. I thought mine was special until a rainstorm hydrolocked it and took it out 😞
