Sounds good Rodney! Bring the car by the shop when you are done with the spring swap and I'll install the cam for you.

I don't get it ... why wouldn't you just put the cam in while the car is already apart? The cam is the simple part, it is the springs and seats, etc that take forever.

dazman, nice try, but no. the reason the cam isnt going in is because we are going to get a baseline with the stock cam then slap the other one in and try it out. the reason i havent been able to basline it is because the headers are still not back from jet hot and im pressed for time to get this thing finished.
think of it this way. it may loose 3 or 4 rwhp with the upgraded valvetrain for the baseline, but we are doing a true cam only swap still have to install my roll cage, new rims and tires. new gears, tach and other crap then have a chance to practice atleast once before the shootout.

just for a laugh, it took me over 4 hrs to change all that crap last night.
might be because i forgot a valve seal and had to figure out which one it was.

i am using the crane duals with .030 shims, new seats, seals and tit. retainers. they almost double seat pressure.

dazman,
i used the more performance tool that thunder sells. it works excelent. you really need a 1/2 drive long ratchet with a reducer to 3/8 to give you enough leverage to comfortably hold that spring compressed while trying to get the lock in. or a second person would have been nice.

jason had checked it on a stock short block with a 241 casting head so i knew it would be ok. we used the spring machine to find out the coil bind and open height to see what size shim is the best withount binding.used a valve spring heigh micrometer to measure the exact height that would work with th valve closed. the differnce was just right for a .028 shim while still leaving room for coil bind. we assembled it on a stock 241 head yesterday afternoon. This seemed to be the best setup for it.
if you go with this cam. just get the exact stuff i have listed to avoid all questions. if you go with the comp springs the shims may or maynot be the same.
to answer someones next question i can see coming. i dont know if you have to run shims, i dont think jason is, but due to the lift of the cam, i would do it for extra safety. i think it will be recomended.
