Default nasty motor sound

This has been going on for 2 years and its just bothering the hell out of me. usually when i start my car up it starves for idle, which it makes this nasty metal to metal clap sound which over the years is getting louder. usually once it warms up it stops, slightly makes a slight sound sometimes. I pulled the valve covers, the springs and rocker arms are fine. like i said its been going on for 2 years but its getting louder, i still reem the **** out of the car and it is still sprayed with no power loss. just hope my luck isnt running out.
it almost sounds like its hitting valves to piston, but if that was the case by now i would though it would have been damaged.

It's piston slap and it's common with the LS motors.

If you've heard the sound for 2 years and the motor is still running, you don't need to worry about it. Which is another reason it's piston slap, if it was something else the motor would have broke down by now.

Mine does the same thing, It sounds like piston slap and lifters tapping until its warmed up. Its purdy bad too, been doing this for 85 thous miles so i'm sure its ok. I'll tell something else carbon on the pistons can make alot of noise in these engines. Some LS1 engines are just crazy noisy.
