how much can you mill heads?

Question how much can you mill heads?

i have a set of used afr heads ive read they have a .750 deck hieght.i measured mine with a measuring tape(knowing they had been milled)and from the mark thats on the heads to the bottom is 3/8" or .375 i beleive.was wondering if this is to much,if i need valve cut pistons.
i have a bone stock 02 ta i havent choosen a cam yet but have a fast 92/ported by tony mamo and a nw 92 TB,and pacesetter 1 3/4 LTs to put on with these heads any suggestions would deffenatly be appreciated.
not a mech. i do paint n body so excuse my stupidness.

You need something more precise than a measuring tape, like a caliper or mic.

ill get one from a buddy tommorrow and post pics where im measuring from to make sure im doing it from the right place.

Have the chambers CC'd. That will tell you how much they have been milled, and you will need to know what your compression ratio is, to accurately choose a cam.. Just about any automotive machine shop can do this, and you could even buy the tools yourself if you wanted to learn.

I took them to a machine shop n they have been milled From 66 cc to 61.5,plan on useing stock bottom end unless my OTC clearance isn't good any suggestions

PTV really depends on your cam.. There are plenty of people that mill them to 59cc. Mine are 63cc, and im running AFRs 224/228 cam.. It may be on the small side, but im making 300RWTQ at about 3k RPM through an auto and stock manifolds/cats.

Cool,that was the same type of cam I believe I was looking at but I'll talk to a cam guy first n see what they recomend,thanks

60.5 cc will give you approximately 11.2-1 and you can easily run an upper 220's cam if not a bit larger with the right valve events.
