Unhappy F*****g # 7 again UPDATED WITH PICS!

Well car started misfiring last week and I finally got hold of a snap-on scanner and although there was no ses light it read a #7 misfire Compression test read 20lbs. on that cylinder. Gonna borrow a leakdown tester this weekend and go from there.

Hopefully it is not rings or piston but being # 7 I am kinda gun shy since it looked like this when it was pulled for the current motor...

Just had to vent

was that piston picture taken from a detonation problem that caused that?or what happened?

Yes that piston is from the stock motor and yes it is possible it is from detonation or predetonation. I am not sure what caused it for sure but I would really GUESS running lean looking at the piston. CR was 11.2-1 on that motor btw.

The plug that came out of #7 of the present 403 motor was carboned up.... Motor has forged wiseco's and GFX rings so something went bad wrong if they failed...

Wow that's weird and you said it happened before on the same cylinder? Same block or different block?

I hope it's nothing serious but from what you described it doesn't sound good.

Yeah a 90/92....42lb. Bosch injectors and Wahlbro.

Just finished a leakdown and after getting #7 TDC motor turned a bit when hit with air....heard air out the exhaust so I am hopeful the problem is in the head and not the bottom.... no air sound out the crankcase which is a good sign.... a look under the valve cover is next so we will see what we find... valvetrain is quiet though so no obvious clues....

Been a shitty week altogether...maybe I'll elaborate later...

stocker's are the way to go my graph after swapping to stocker got so flat and pretty. the weight from the y/t to the stockers upgraded is crazy. check it out lots of good post on it.

I think that's the way I will go but you hear stories about valve tip wear after .550 lift so IDK. I drive it just about every weekend on long trips so it needs to be dependable. I average 15k a year. I will definitely consider it but the main reason I have YT's is because I have TFS heads.....And yes I am aware of shimming the stockers to run on TFS heads....

Maybe I need to start a thread about it. I would love to know the results of somebody running lots of miles on shimmed stock rocker TFS heads????

I was under the impression that there was a very little weight difference between the stock trunion upgrades vs yella terra ultra lights. Swapped several times on my grandfathers vette with no noticeable difference in power.
No dyno to back that up though.

How old were the rockers out of curiosity?

Im hoping they were from the older batch thay had some issues with.

PM me a pic of the rocker....I can tell you if its the older or newer design.

Hey....its WAAAY better than a blown up piston!!

Damien I have TFS heads. Will it cause valve guide wear? I will shim the rockers........

Edit: I would love for somebody with firsthand experience to chime in.
