Default Over the cam search

Hey guys heres my deal:
2k s10
2003 LQ9 doner
ls6 intake
4l60e with shift kit and slight upgrade on convertor ( MG 2025)
double roller cam chain, comp springs, stock heads. typical bolt-ons.

Looking for a cam with wide powerband but streetable, something between a hot cam and the next step possibly? This is a automatic so I was told to watch the numbers because the LSA on the Hot cam is not ideal for the Auto. I have a Z06 cam in garage but im not sure how much of an improvement over stock LQ9 cam this is and if its even worth my time to swap it im getting mixed signals on forums others have posted. I am looking for a used cam that someone can recommend and that others will approve of if z06 cam is not much of a gain. I have searched forums all day and I am finding little to vouch for reason to swap it. I am on a budget so a $400 cam is out of the question right now but something halfway will be considered. Also if I buy another cam I will be selling the z06 and lq9 if anyone is interested.

I want to stick this in the truck but this is the only thing holding me up.

Thanks for everyones input...

Default Cam 4 U

228R on a 114ls or 115 ls is a proven Streetable strong Powerband for an auto.

i would agree with hardcore, the 228 shows good gains with really good street manners. driveability is really determined by the tuner too...

you will need better springs and push rods with most non-gm cams.look at a TSP or thunder racing cam pkg.

You can't cam a motor with a 228r for $200. What are you gonna do about the other valvetrain upgrades that are needed?

Op, what size stall do you have?

With a stock size converter I woupdnt go larger than even an ls6 cam.

What exactly is your budget? Even an ls6 cam requires different push rods and at minimum ls6 springs. I would also recommend doing a timing chain and pump while you're in there.140$ for a good peace of mind.

^ lol i would agree with you lemons. to the OP, i have an ls1, stock ls6 heads and springs, my pistons have been valve cut ( i forgot how much off the top of my head i will check tomorrow if i have the sheet from the machine shop), ls6 cam, 28# injectors, a full exhaust, 2800 stall, performance products 85mm intake and tb, slp lid, stock MAF, and 3.23's in the rear. my car is getting dyno'd at speed inc. in illinois on Tuesday. I'll post up my results and track times hopefully next weekend. from driving this set up around without a tune, there is power throughout the entire curve and is a pretty ideal set up for someone looking for almost a daily driver with some go. an entire ls6 setup seems to be fairly cheep, and AI is doing some amazing work with the 243 heads.
