Default asa cam help

please give me some insight. im looking at the gm asa cam mostly for valvespring life. wondering how much of a difference it would be from the hot cam. i will be getting the cam and springs installed by a proffesional and they said they would tune it with ls1 edit. HOW WILL THIS CAM BEHAVE AFTER LS1 EDIT TUNING? i know it will have a lopey idle but i like that. i drive the car about 10k miles a year its not a daily driver. will it through a ses light after tuning? basically how streetable is this cam. thanks!!!

After tuning no SES light :-) With your M6 I would reccomend at LEAST 3.73 or better 4.10's gears and you will be fine. Oh and a clutch is necessary too. SLP headers work beautifully with that cam.

Clutch? Na, he's got an '02. Comes with Z06 clutch and upgraded hydraulics already, as did yours. I agree with ya Sununix about the gears though.

Ls1Edit tuning has come a long way. The ASA used to be regarded as undaily driveable, but now, it should be fine with a tune. I've always liked the ASA cam, and it should make decent power over the regular GM hotcam. It also has the maddest, most wicked lope I've ever heard.
Please let us know how things go and post your dyno or track numbers.

Good luck!

i put 10,000 miles on my Z with the ASA in it, and it was one hell of a ride... LOL... that thing will scare the HELL out of people. you WONT get a race... you will scare their asses off... LOL... you DONT have to have tuning to run this cam, but with tuneing the thing is GOLD!~ i ran it for 6 months with NO tune and it was "OK" with the tune it was ungodly... LOL

i ran an 8.67 with this cam... best i ran STOCK was an 8.6 ..... lol.... somthing not quite right. but it was due to my clutch, tune, and tires, but the car picked up 5 mph in the 1/8 so that will tell you that you have picked up good power. the car is a damn TORQUE monster. i live in a semi small town and there is no one around here that is going to touch that car. it pulls DAMN strong for a cam/headered car.

This should link up to a dyno on a ASA-prepped LS1.

That dyno is way off or there is more than just a cam here.

I think that's an actual ASA racing engine on an engine dyno.

I doubt a 427, but it says 5.7LS1 V8... I think some awesome heads and some mild motor work and maybe spray? Otherwise ASA cam will not make those #'s. Can ralt12 post the specs on the car please?

That engine is a Lingenfelter ASA motor equipped like this:
Hopefully this attached dyno sheet comes through; it was running this:
440 hp @ 6100 rpm
427lb-ft torque @ 4850 rpm
GM ASA/SCCA LS1 camshaft, part number 12480110
LS1 "853" casting cylinder head, center bolt valve cover
LS6 Valve springs
LS1 Intake manifold p/n 12556333
mechanical throttle body
heavy duty A1 rod bolts
ATI Super dampener
Turn One power steering pump
cast aluminum ARE dry sump oil pan
Razor two stage oil scavenge pump
Stock displacement, standard bore and bearing sizes.

So what I am gathering is its a ASA cam with the 853 casting heads made that power on a stock motor with upgraded rod bolts?

Believe it or not, straight off Ebay. It was about 1500 less than a crate LS6.
