Today after I took a nap from working 18.5 hours yesturday, I started to rip into my car for the rebuild. Just got the basic motor ripped apart and help dirty my clean shop. Anyone got advice for getting the block out of the car and on the motor stand?

I've seen a lot of people just put a dolly under the motor and sub frame. After the sub frame is unbolted from the frame, you can jack the car up and push the dolly out from under the car. I've never done it, but it looks easy. Good luck on your build.

I did mine from the top. Actually I havent taken it out through the bottome yet, and this is the fourth time.

For some strange reason the beer fridge keeps loosing all my beer. I fill it up then before I know it its empty. I think we are going to lift the car and roll the motor out the bottum. Hopefully by the end of today the motor should be down to a block and getting cleaned up. Then I can start cleaning and painting everything. An Jesus the pipes sound good when they are on the car I tried them out a couple days ago. Ironically even Alex thought they sounded good.

I would just unbolt the Kmember and lift the car up and pull the whole assembly out from the bottom, thats just me that way you dont have to worry about ******* anything up on the body by pulling it from the top, and you would have more room. chow chow

Don't worry fellas, engine is on the stand as I type this. Oh...and we did it WITHOUT unbolting the K-member and WITHOUT an engine hoist.

you guys must be really strong!! So how did you do it? Did you use a rope and a pulley on a tree attached to a truck and drive forward till its out? And of course you prolly did all this with the hood on also.... ;-)

He already had it down to the shortblock when I got there so we pulled the trans out leaving just the short block dangeling in the engine bay. We then put the jack on the bottom rear of the engine, unbolted the motor mounts, and I lifted the nose of the engine off the K member while he slowly let the jack down and back into the tunnel. I guided it down as it made its descent to the floor and that was that. All we had to do then was lift the car high enough to slide the engine out from underneath it.

Honestly, the shortblock isn't very heavy. Maybe 250lbs.

Alright well today was productive, day started with motor, exhaust, transmission, and 1 head left in the car. By the end of the day everything was out and mostly disassembled. We did slip the shortblock between the k-member and doghouse. Wasnt too bad there is plenty of room without the heads and everything installed. Only issue after that was raising the car high enough to clear the engine so we could slide it out and get it on the motor stand. Now I have a shop full of parts that all need to be cleaned, painted, and then reinstalled.

Today dave and I pulled the crank and cleaned the block. We ground off the lug in the valley so that the LS6 valley cover can be installed. Then I painted the block, covers, and water pump.
