Default Need advice Please, rag sucked into motor

I had my car up on ramps and my TB off last night. I had stuck a small kitchen towel into my intake hole to keep debris out. Despite the fact that my car was up on ramps with the hood up, my significant other decided to get in and start it up to move the car, long story short, I now have a towel sticking halfway out of my head runner, Should I try and yank it out or do I have to pull the heads? will the heads be damaged?

It only ran for a second and she shut it off, Its lodged in there pretty good

You might have to pull the head. I've got to ask why was the battery not disconnected?

Try turning the motor over manually (socket on the crank bolt) to see if you can get the valve in a position to "let go" of the rag.

Well, I was just going to pull my TB and polish it up a little, I didnt think that was going to be necessary, wish I had though.

I have been wanting to do new lifters anyway and a new Head Gasket, maybe even upgrade my stock 98 heads, but wasnt in a financial position to do all that right now.

Ok, i cranked the motor by hand a few times and was able to get most of it out (See Pic), there is still a small piece left in there as you can see here, I pulled out a bunch of small strings of it as well, should i put it back together and start it? Part of me says **** it, I should just pull the heads and do new gaskets and lifters.

pull the head put your lifters in and rebuild the heads. if that much rag got behind the valve and held it open it have hit the piston so if it was me i would pull the heads

I would have loosened the intake and exhaust rockers to relieve the pressure and see if you can get the rest out and take the head off and check the two valves as well. Bothers me that some didn't come out. Maybe it is stuck around the valve.

It would chew at me if i didn't take the head off. But thats just me.

I did an intake swap a while back but have never gone as far as pulling off the heads. How hard is it to install new lifters once the heads are off? Any idea what its going to cost to get these heads rebuilt? They are 806 heads. Anything else I should replace once theyre off besides gaskets, and lifters? I did a cam swap around 8K miles ago and had a new oil pump, new springs, and pushrods installed, thx for the comments.

Besides new gaskets, lifters and head studs, what else can I do to freshen my motor up while the heads are off? Can I clean up the tops of my pistons with something?
