Might double check your part#.. Im showing the oldest part# to be 12556434... That was the # back in 99'... They have since changed to 12586665, which is all that is used from GM on the 4.8, 5.3 exc LC9 & LS4, 6.0 exc L76, 5.7(LS1 & LS6) & 6.2's exc L99 & L92

Those articles were written years ago, so the part number might be outdated. Are you looking to replace your oil pump? If so, I've been hearing nothing but good things about the Melling 10296.

Ditto on the current LS6 part number of 12586665.

I have a Melling 10296 and it works well, but it would requires clearancing work whenever it is used in conjunction with a double-roller chain.

Yep, cheapest place to purchase a Melling Oil Pump is through New Era Performance Parts for 104.99 plus 10.95 shipping. Everywhere else it's 139.99-159.99 plus shipping.

Click on part number 10296.

You should consider an LS2 chain - not all that expensive and stouter than LS1.

LS2 Timing Chain can be had at Texas Speed or Thunder Racing. Once the oil pump is off the timing chain chane is not difficult.

A melling M295 is the OE Replacement as opposed to the high performance 10296. The 10296 is a high volume pump and comes with two springs to allow the selection of standard pressure or high pressure (+10 psi). An M296 is a Melling pump for Chrysler engines.

at what point would be the need for plus 10 psi of oil pressure over the the regular melling?

I do not know - perhaps it helps if you are running an external oil cooler; or perhaps there instances where the higher pressure is beneficial with certain bearing clearances. I installed my with standard pressure spring. I wanted the added volume which comes with the 10296.

Since the "m296 option" would involve a pump for a Chrysler engine (see above) I assume you mean the 10296 option. The 10295 is a standard volume, high pressure pump.

it says m296 for ls1 and ls2 engines I figured since they had a m295 and a m296 it was the 10296 and the other the 10295 they sent me.
