OK, so lets say a guy has an LS6, and puts an EPS 226 cam in it. Its still an LS6, right?
Well what if a guy (like me) had a 2002 LS1, which had the LS6 block and LS6 intake. I put some 243 heads on it, and put an EPS 226 cam it. Isn't it "technically" the same as the first guy?
Not splitting hairs, just curious.

The difference between ls6 and ls1 -01-02 blocks .. heads which like you said 243's and cam .. yea I'm sure some other little stuff like valley cover and little details but the power should be the same

Not that it really matters to me in the end, but I'm just wondering if I'd be lying to people if I told them that the engine was an LS6. Doesn't make a difference really, just more of a conversation piece.

Right there....that's the kind of stuff I was wondering about. If I had to guess, I'd say you are correct. Now....if I go with a TEA Stage 2 job, then I'm off the hook!! LOL

Technically, it wasn't only the cylinder heads and valvetrain that differed the LS6 and LS1 engines. The LS6 engine block was based off the LS1 but was modified for better bay-to-bay breathing, and has different pistons then the LS1. So the LS6 shortblock is different then the LS1. The LS6 also came with bigger fuel injectors, upgraded exhaust manifolds and PCV system. Just noting the details.

I tend to see things this way too. The LS6 was a complete engine package from the block on out from the factory. If you change the cam and or the heads on the LS6 engine, do you still have an LS6 engine? I would have to say NO because its been altered and probably for the better. The LS6 was by no means the most beat all of engines, but rather another factory created engine that could kick the butt of the stock LS1. I have a new crate LS6 in my 02 z28. Anything below 3500 rpm's just leaves me saying...OK, but about 4000 rpm's, it pulls like a freight train so smooth. I think of changing out the cam all the time because I want a faster/quicker freight train lol.

OMG...
LS6 block is better in the ways noted + the rear oil passage that feeds the top end is much larger. It's not an LS6 unless it's a freakin' LS6. Who cares, anyway? LS1 or LS6, they're both bad-*** platforms capable of 500 RWHP w/ the proper modifications.
Why the f'ck did I even come in here. It's a newb discussion

Obviously you didn't see my LOL in the thread title, and the couple times I said this was just a topic for discussion. This wasn't meant to be 100% LS1-veteran-serious, rather just something to kick around with regards to the internal differences between the two engines.

If you're having a bad day go hit the heavy bag or something
Or better yet, hit the bottle and rub that **** out
