04 ls1 overheated bad.. help diagnose?
ok so this was over 4th of july weekend.
it was over 108 @ track
my water and oil temps kept creeping up at the track
at one point it maxed out my oil and water temp gauges at over 300 F
i pulled off track and there was no more coolant it was starting to spew out of overflow just straight steam.
dont know if it is a blown head gasket / warped block / warped heads / cracked block or heads.
so far the only thing i've done is a compression test
Front of Motor
190 190
180 190
180 170
190 190
i will be doing a leakdown test as well as pulling the heads off
but does anyone else have any ideas of what might be the issue or troubleshooting?
the 170 compression really isnt too bad considering its only 10% loss of compression so i am starting to get worried that it may be a crack in a cooling jacket.
i havent drained the oil yet cause i want to be able to continue testing but i will drain it shortly to look for chocolate milk.

***update***
Just did a leakdown test however with the motor cold.
my gauge only shows 100 psi max so it was 100 psi input
Results are as follows
Front of motor
94 94
94 93
93 88
91 94
Now with the one with 88 psi, i tried to see if any air was coming out of the radiator but nothing was. however i believe w/ the thermostat closed i wouldnt see it anyways. is that the case or should i have been able to see air bubbles coming out of the radiator.

Good process thus far, next I'd grab the cooling system pressure tester from AutoZone (loan-a-tool) and pop it on the radiator to see if there's a problem at the head gasket(s).

good idea.. didnt think of that one..
you think i should do that or pull the heads off first?
i hope its just a gasket and nothing else..
save me a lot of downtime cause my next event is less than a month away
