Default Ls3 cam in an ls1

Question is will an ls3 stock cam work in an ls1 block and if so is there any benefit of the stock ls3 cam over a ls1 stock cam?

Cam position sensor is not compatible. You'll need an LS3 timing gear, LS3 timing cover, cam position sensor extension...not worth it.

Also the ls3 cam is designed for the ls3 rectangle ports and head flow so it would probably run like crap in an ls1 even if u got it to work

There are better cams out there for LS1s if your looking for off the shelf power without getting a tune. Look into Thunder Racings Cheatr series. If your looking for something even more stock and cheaper there is the LS9 camshaft. The benefits of these cams are that you can pretty much install and drive. Not a lot of tuning required. A mail order tune from a good tuner will be spot on WOT and the stock tune will still drive it great around town.

i haven't seen any pages with the ls9 cam to back up that the cam will perform well in the ls1 motor. also, i haven't seen the ls9 cam, but you need to make sure its a 3 bolt pattern. the newer ls2 and ls3 motors use a single bolt pattern for the cam. I would take a look at the ls6 cam, it will keep you car sounding stock and i drove mine for a few months without getting it tuned. However, i do suggest you tune your car, mail order or actual tune when you change the cam in your car. The street manners are also pretty nice, especially when paired with some 243's. I was able to get my cam and heads for extremely cheap and came out with a car that put 350 to the tires after the tune through an unlocked A4. something to think about if you're on a budget and you don't want to play around with different set ups.

There are a few, I mean its not a end all be all but if tuning was a concern from the get go its an option.

you can not run a ls3 cam gear in a ls1 even with the ls2/ls3 timing cover, the ls3 runs a 4x cam signal where the ls1/ls2 runs a 1x for the trouble it will take to put a ls3 cam in a ls1 i would just buy a ls6 cam or so even is the ls3 cam is free you will have to buy a cam gear a front cover and a extension harness to get it to work a ls6 cam can be picked up for 200 or less used
