Default Unknown engine problem?

I am looking to buy a camaro that does not run. The original owner died and his son does not know what its wrong and just wants it gone. When I looked at the engine the valve cover was off of the passenger side and the first three rocker arms where removed. Why do you think the owner would have done this? The cars is a great deal I just dont want to buy somthing with a blown motor.

Try barring it over by hand while watching those 3 pushrods. Only way you're gonna know is to put it back together and start testing.

Just put the 3 rockers back on the car, and like s10xgn said,, turn the car over,I would use a hot battery and the ignition,, If it does not try to turn over,, then turn it by hand,, if it dont move at all expect a full rebuild$$$$ if it does turn,, You still may be in it for $$$. You wont know until You dig into it.

OK so this may be a dumb question but, how do you turn an engine by hand?

by using the bolt that holds the balancer to the crank. use a breaker bar and it's cake.

Better question is where is the car, if you dont want to fix it let me know I may be interested in it regardless of the engine issues.

you should assume the engine is junk at least as far as price negotiating goes. then if it is, you won't be upset. If you can get it to run, then its all good.

I agree with farmington, assume the engine is already shot and factor that into the price.

Honestly that depends on lots of things. Overall condition would be a big factor.

Would this be the same Z28 you're looking at out in Dover?

if that is the car and it has a 12 bolt in it, I'd jump all over it.

Engine is missing valve cover, dip stick holder, couple rocker arms, and coil packs. He will sell it for $2700 is anyone is interested. I dont have the space right now.
