Default Bought a set of 241's-best modding for them?

Well I can't seem to see any threads around for what I'm looking to ask. I picked up a set of 241 head's not too long ago for $80. Yes $80....and they are in excellent condition! My goal is to pound out 400 to 425 RWHP using these heads. I am not sure however on what is the very best modding to be done to them. Porting and polishing is a given. Valves??? I am wanting to recut for larger valves, but how big? 2.02 or larger intake? 1.57 or larger exhaust? I will be ganging these heads up against a fast 92/92 setup, hooker super comps (1-3/4), got a CompCams xer281 stick to put a whoopin on the valvetrain. Can I safely mill them down any with this given setup say like to a 62cc? Was hoping that maybe someone else has had some experience with aggressively modding 241's that could give me some setup pointers or such. Thanks any and all in advance!

Send the heads to Advanced Induction for one of their CNC porting programs. They can also provide springs as well completely assembled. I gained 55rwhp and 36lb/tq with my CNC AI 243s over cam/intake only. Great prices for the quality of work and fast turn around time as well!

I have a set of old school MTI 2E 241's. They are CNC'd with 2.02's. They CLAIMED 300cfm... The portwork is beautiful. They'll outflow stock 243's for sure, but not stage 2's. I've never dyno'd the car, but it will trap well over 120 even on a bad day with a V2.
A nice port, polish and a great valve job will give you a decent set of heads. 243's would be a better starting point, though.

I dont think you are gonna find alot of people that have spent any effort on 241's. There seems to be much more to gain from 243/799 casting. Im pretty sure that AI does work on 241's and 853's if you want it done, but really I would spent the time and litte extra to get a better set of castings.

Just my opinion.

Thanks djfury05! AI is where these heads are going to get hooked up with their 241 program. Tis true I know 243's are better but given that I got these heads for something next to nothing and they are in unbelievable condition, I am going to use them. Some wicked 243's are in the future, but I see that AI can make these 241s "SUPERNATURAL" so to speak. Thanks again!

No problem man glad to help. It was an easy suggestion to make on my part based on my experience with them not only from the results I got, but from the customer service and how these guys really know their stuff and are the ones who answer the phone and speak to customers, not just their secretaries etc (I'm pretty sure they don't have any either!) Real good friendly guys at AI I will be back for more 110%

Another nod for A.I. They do great things with 241s from what I have seen.

What do you think we did to heads before 2001? Send those heads out to TEA or AI, Thunder Racing, and Texas Speed will probabaly both get you taken care of as well. Just because someone doesn't have it on their website does not mean they can't hook you up!

I milled .050" off my 241's, then hand ported the hell out of them my self. I never had then flowed, but I can tell you the butt dyno registered really good gains with the job I did. If you know what your doing and have the time you can really make these heads flow. If you can start with 243's it will take less work, but in the end you can make 241's flow almost if not as good as ported 243's

Curious.... by milling 241's down .050, what cc volume did that make and what cr resulted from that, most importantly, what lift restrictions went into play on a stock bottom end as far as p-v clearance goes?

Consider possible intake alignment issues with that much milling also.

After milling, I went back and polished the chambers and ended up with 58cc's these heads are on my 408 with flat top pistons and valve reliefs I'm running 12.56:1 static compression....8.25:1 dynamic. Dual springs and comp 255/266 .624/.624 115.

I'm running an Edelbrock proflo xt intake and it still drops right on and bolts down....but I've been told that some people run into intake bolt alignment problems sometimes with as little as .040" milled off their heads
