Technical discussion on Valve Seals
With all this crap about dropping valve seals maybe someone could give an explanation on valve seals for those of us (including myself) who don't know the technical aspect of the valve seal other than it is a seal for the valve.
Explain how they are installed, how they work, how they are secured, where they go, difference between Viton/Teflon, what makes them drop or how they fail, what causes them to fail, etc, etc, etc......
Post pictures to clarify what you are talking about
Just a thought

You are confusing valve seal and valve seats. Valve seals limit the amount of oil that can run down the valve guide. They are attached to the top of the valve guide. Valve seats are hardened steel rings that are machined to precise angles and are in the combustion chamber. They are what the face of the valves seal against. They are installed in the head with a pressed interference fit.
