How Big Can I Go?
I am planning S2 5.7 or 5.3 heads this summer. I am planning on keeping my Vig 2800 stall and the 3:23 gears (I drive 50 miles a day during the school year), how big of a cam can I go and this combo still be effective? I know alot of the buildup is matching components, thus the question. Should I just stick with the cam I have now? This is not a track car at all, just street. I would be adding another tune, intake, and ported tb if that helps...

I am worried about getting too big a cam for my stall. I know it is around a 3200, but I didn't know how well that would perform with the stall. That is what I need the help on.

I really don't care about lope, but I don't want it to eat up springs either. I am looking for around 400 rwhp, and I want to do this upgrade once so I want to make sure I get one that I will be happy with overall.

Thanks. Do you have any numbers with your setup? I am looking at Patriot as long as everything gets sorted out, probably the S2 5.7 heads milled a little if possible. That way I wouldn't need coil relocation brackets and new valve covers. Would the 228 be pretty easy on springs also?

This set up made amazing numbers. I put down 395 on a mustang dyno through an A4 with a 3400 stall. I would not count patriot out just because some people has had problems. I made crazy numbers with their heads. The 228 will be fairly easy on springs. If you go with the patriot heads you get the dual springs which are perfect for that cam.

Awesome numbers!!! Was the 395 with the nitrous? I agree with the Patriot comment, as long as they have new seals, I think they will be great. Why did you go with the 231--b/c it is more of a nitrous cam?

No...that was N/A. I went with the 231 because I wanted a larger cam and it fit the rest of my set up. You have to match your cam with your entire set up. I originally wanted the 231/237 but relaized I would not see the full potential because of my stall and gears...so I downsized. Call up TSP, they can sell you a heads/cam package to fit your needs. I really think the 228/228 will fit your needs very well IMO. Dont look for huge number gains though. You will see more of a gain at the track.
