Default Oil light came on, now no oil pressure

So I started my car after sitting for 2 days, ran fine, drove it down the road, the low oil light came on, I figured it just needed a quart , drove it 1 mile to autozone, shut if off. There was no ticking or anything. I checked the oil, it needed a quart and a half so I put it in. Fired it up, making a ticking noise and no oil pressure.

So I am not sure if the oil light came on because of the low oil and low oil pressure. I have the mods in my signature and a SLP ported oil pump with about 11,000 miles on them.

I was just going to buy a new oil pump, tick ported and put it in and see if it goes back to normal. I plan on draining the oil to see what the magnet on the drain plug looks like.

Any other suggestions? I pretty much ran it for like 10 seconds with the noise, maybe less. Car has 85,000 miles.

i would verify that there is no oil pressure by checking it with a gauge. maybe your sending unit is bad?? i would check before putting in a new pump.. just my $.o2 however the fact that it was making noise does not sound the best

I agree, before you buy anything it is always worthwhile to check it with a mechanical gauge. If there is not a ticking noise and your oil is at the proper level then it sounds like you may have a bad sending unit.

When I fired it up, it idles high and the top end makes alot of noise, no knock yet but its definetely not getting oil pressure. Also just verified oil is full. Guess I will be pulling the timing cover and inspecting the relief valve, Im going to try the TSP ported pump this time.

I know I need a puller and a longer bolt to remove the UD pulley, does any sponsor sell these, I could find them. What type of pulley do I use for the UD pulley?

So I really havent had much feedback on this. I just changed my oil, these was a little metal on the magnet on the drain plug, no more than usual.

So I am going to pull it apart and put an oil pump in it. I was thinking the Texas speed pump or a melling, which one do you guys reccommend?

unless the gear broke on the pump they normally dont fail. i would guess you have something else going on. my buddies car did the same thing after his cam swap. two of the cam bearings started flaking apart. they didnt spin in the bores. just flaked the outer layer off. cut your oil filter open and see whats in there.

Found the problem, the pressure relief was stuck open in the oil pump, just ordered a new one, TSP ported one and all gaskets, new bolt and harmonic balancer installer.

I recieved my tsp pump yesterday and installed it. Oil pressure is now at 25 hot idle, 60 at speed. Looks like it is fixed.

Good deal. I hope mine is that easy to fix. Where did you inspect the pressure relief valve.

If you take the cover off of the oil pump, look inside and see what passage ways are open. On the side of the pump, there is an allen head bolt, take it out. that is the pressure relief, there should be a spring and cylinder in there. My cylinder was stuck open, relieving all the pressure.

Cool. Just went out and tried to pull the Allen head bolt from the Melling pump. Som'bitch was tight. I ended up stripping the plug, but I was able to use a probe through the bottom of the hole and was able to move the plunger. Mine doesnt seem stuck.
