Default Identify this bolt from photo?

The bolt on the left is the one I pulled from my '02 LS1. The ferrule is snug on the threads.

The one on the right is the one provided by the dealer as the stock replacement. It has a secondary set of threads (or actually ribs, not true threads) and a spacer thing that slides on the smooth part of the shank but does not fit snugly into the connecting rod.

I know there were 2 designs for the connecting rod bolts, the 2nd design being the better one. But I don't know if my existing bolts are first or 2nd design.

Is this the correct factory replacement for an 02 F-body LS1 connecting rod? If so, would this be a 2nd design bolt?

EDIT: Tentative answer--2nd design LS1 bolt on the left, LS6 bolt on the right

As near as I can tell it is the recommended replacement bolt and should be compatible with LS1's.

Sure hope so cuz I just tightened 'em down. And I yanked out all the existing ferrules from the other style bolts.

In case you are still wondering the first design rod bolts did not use ferrules and the second design did. The original bolts are likely discontinued and the one you got has superseded the old part number. GM does this pretty regularly(like with the LS7 lifter).

Oh, ok. So I think what I had was the 2nd design bolts and the new ones I got would be kind of like the 3rd design. I see they are listed for LS6's and all gen III motors, so it must be the LS6 bolt and it has replaced all the predecessors.

Cool, thanks for the reply!

I hope it was the right thing to do to yank out the ferrules...
