Default Camshaft: '99 LS1 vs. '01 LS1

How much more power does the 98-00 cam make? Clearly it's only slightly more aggressive. Could you see this on a dyno or a track? And how do these two compare to the LS6 (listed below)?
1998 - 2000 Fbody
202/210 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.496" / 0.496" int/exh lift
116 LSA

2001 - 2002 Fbody
197/207 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.467" / 0.479" int/exh lift
116 LSA

2001 LS6 cam
207/217 int/exh @ 0.05" duration
0.525" / 0.525" int/exh lift
116 LSA

Reason being: Does a '99 put down more power?

ive also thought the same as you.......i thought about it this way.....gm liked the fbody ls1 putting out the "POSTED" 305hp. when they added the ls6 intake in 01, i think keeping that same cam may have upped the peak hp to id say 315-320. They may have milded it a little bit so the hp would stay at 305, not getting any closer to the vette.

The difference in power is neglible. I know a moderator that put a cam in his car back in the day and did not know until after it was a 99 cam and it kinda sucked for him to do all that work for nothing in gains. Unless your putting a blower on the car I would go past the factory LS6 cam and look at a min 224/228 or better cam.

As for power if you want to be accurate, with LS1 intake in 98-00 made less power then 01+ cars which is the reason why hp got the bump for the most part.

As for seeing it, maybe on a engine dyno. Probably if you kept the intake manifold the same but again its not that much of a change to make a real world difference.

Swapping any of the 98-02 F-body cams would be akin to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Just not worth it. All else being equal the 98-00 cam would probably make a couple of more hp (I am talking less than 5). Swapping a LS6 intake onto a 98-00 car is vastly superior to changing a 01-02 car to a 98-00 cam.

A 99 would NOT put down more power. As stated above, the LS6 intake makes a difference. Also you have more restrictive stock exhaust manifolds on the 99. But if you take the manifolds out of the equation and did something funny like putting a 99 cam in an 02 ls1, yeah it would be faster.

I said "all things being equal", which would mean equal intake, head, and exhaust manifold configuration.

Do not spend the money on any of the cams. If you want a cam but small enough to not lob alot or whatever, get a 224 ish cam. drive like stock and make more power then any of the stockers.

A 224 cam, while it seems smallish compared to a lot of the cam guys use on here, isn't a small cam. You're moving up 24 degrees at .050 lift which is a lot for only 5.7 liters. If you go with a 112 lobe center, it will have a very noticible lumpy idle. Makes a lot more power upstairs too.

I've own both a 99 and 02, the 99 makes more power up high and the 02 makes more down low. I like the 02 better although I'm sure the 99 would win in a all out race. Another thing I noticed is the 02 EATS the rear tires up much faster than the 99. The 02 cam is much nicer for a daily driver IMO.
