Default Potential gains? heads/cam swap

I'm thinking of a larger cam for my datsun and the TSP 233/239 (on 112) cam seems to have my calling. Since I'm not smart I'd like to swap my heads off and go with their PRC215's that I've read a bit about.

I'm currently running TSP 5.3 stg 2.5 heads at 59cc's and a small 224/224 @.567" (on 114lsa) cam with a fast 90/90. The car is a stick also with 3.90 gears.

Thoughts if there would be a noticable gain on the streets? I'm in a hilly/twisty road area so power under the curve/mid range grunt is important here almost more than top end power.

Those cars a very light from what I know so I would expect you to notice a pretty solid gain in power. I don't know how it will do in the low end compared to your current setup. The 215 heads will definitely help with low end power because they have the smaller runner and we should be able to maintain compression because of the thicker casting. But going with the larger cam might negate a little of that power pick up in the low end because the extra duration will move the power band up a little. I am not saying you will lose a bunch of low end but I do not know how much will be picked up in the change.

how would the 215's be with the cam that I have now then?

would you recommend milling them down like the heads I have now for the compression?

Compared to the 5.3l heads the 215 heads will pick up more power every where in the power band. The 2.5 5.3l heads are basically trying to do what the 215s do just not as well because we have to work around GM's port. Since we were able to go in and design our own port in the 215s we were able to better develop a smaller runner to maintain better flow and port velocity. I would definitely recommend milling the heads to maintain the compression you are at, compression is important for low end power in these motors.

^^^ this dude will hook you up. Cam change would be good I think too. Thats a light car with a good gear so you can get away with a little more cam. Dont know that Id go as big as 233/239 but something around 228-232/234-238 and a tight lobe seperation would be pretty nasty. Consider the EPS 230/236
