Default Help me install these new ls-9 head gaskets correctly. This Time

I am installing new ls-9 head gaskets since I blew a cometic mls. Does anyone know what gm recommends for these?

I heard have the heads surfaced to 40 Ra or better.

What can I do to best prep the block surface without pulling the pistons? #0000 steel wool?

After I carefully razor blade the deck surface?
This is a iron block btw.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can lightly clean the surface with mineral spirits but you have to make sure you do not let it sit in the cylinders. Check the deck of the block and heads and ensure they are flush. I'd suggest using a new metal straight edge to verify they are not warped.

If all checked good a nice light cleaning and you should be good to go. Did you use any copper spray on the Cometic gaskets?

Yes I used copper spray but I don't think I will be on the new ls9 gaskets. Unless gm recommends it.
