Default Oil Pressure too HIGH?

Is it possible? It's kind of a new occurrence. I normally ran 45-65 psi depending on RPM, but I was running nearly 80 psi at interstate cruising speed (~1750RPM). I know astronomically high oil pressure could be bad, but should I be worried about this? Especially since it just started.

Check the pressure with a mechanical gauge. If this happened suddenly and without other symptoms it is more likely to be a sender/wiring/grounding issue.

Also, have you changed your oil flter lately?

I changed the oil and filter about a month or so ago, but the pressure issue just started yesterday. Replaced the ACDelco with an identical ACDelco filter.

Also the sensor was recently replaced during an intake swap. It has given regular readings since the change until yesterday.

It comes down to two possibilities: (a) the high-pressure is not real and it is the guage/sender/wiring/grounds; or (b) the high-pressure is real and is caused by a malfunction in the oil pump spring-based pressure regulation, which is in the pump.

Not sure what brand sensor you went with during the swap, but from the Vette boards it seems the oil pressure sensors with the aluminum body don't last long and many guys have had multiple failures with them. One theory is at that over torquing them can cause early failure.
