Default Ls1 build questions?

I just had a few questions before I start trying to mod my 02 ws6. As of now it's all stock other then I removed the muffler and just left the cats( love the sound). Just some general back ground it's an auto with 100,500 miles on it, but still runs great.

Here's my goal. I'd like it to put down close to 400rwhp, but Id like it to be pretty streetable( it won't be my daily driver, but I'd like it to be reliable).

I'll start with the basics I suppose LT's, lid, stall, and gears. First question would be how big of a stall should i get? I'm assuming for street driving 3.73's would be my best bet?

Then comes the big stuff like cam and heads? I was assuming with heads it be easier to achieve the 400rwhp? If it's better to go with heads to should I get aftermarket or just port the stock heads?

Now for a cam? I tried to read as many stickies as I could. From what I read something like a TR 224 would suit me? Wouldn't it? I think this is all for now.
Thanks in advance.

If I do

If you're only gonna do cam OR heads, and not both, I'd do a cam. I don't believe a 224 would get you to 400 rwhp cam only. Maybe if you had a REALLY good tune, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
If you do cam AND heads, you'll hit 400 EASY. My suggestion is grab some 243s or 799s and have them ported.
Stall I would say maybe 3200? I don't drive an auto so I couldn't really tell you.

Good luck with whatever you do, and be sure and post up pics/results

O no I'm talking heads and cam. Could you shed some light on the heads you talked about do they have a name or are they just classified with numbers?

243s- 02-04 LS6 OEM heads. 799s- LS2 OEM heads almost the same set just diffrent springs and valves. Cheaper upgrade from your 241-LS1 heads.. But ported the 243s are nice,

If you plan on getting a full valve job, you can probably swing the 799s for less. The 243s come with good valves if you plan on recycling, and can find a set in good shape.

AI (Advanced Induction) is one of the better places that ports them, and for the price I'd say it's the best bang for your buck as far as heads go. People get some GREAT numbers out of them. It's what I plan on doing soon.

For the most performance out of a particular set up cam and stall go hand in hand . And cam and upgrades of engine go hand in hand also . So You're best bet is to talk to some of the vendors and/or the cam guru on here and tell them what You're shooting for , what upgrades You have and they will calculate what cam will get You where You need to be and/or which cam will net You the most power throughout the rpm range . Good low end tq , and good tq all the way to redline , best hp #'s in the mid to top end , then they'll tell You which stall will net You the best 60ft. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times . There is a proven method and order to the madness , and You're smarter than many for asking before buying .

Go to the top of gen3 internal engine and click the third sticky down , then scroll down I think to the bottom and in red it says ls1, ls2, ls3, ls6 cam specialist . This guy is supposed to be the sh_t for calculating the best cam to go with any LS build . I think he charges $25 for a complete cam calculation but is supposed to be worth every penny . You can talk to him and get an idea of what he knows and help on specifically which direction to go before You purchase his services .

I would recommend looking at texas speed and performance ( TSP ) they offer serveral head and cam combos. I'm gonna be using there stage 1 ls6 heads and v2 cam package when i get back in the states. Its hard to beat there price for 243 heads machined unless you already have a set or can get one really cheap. you can also watch the parts classified on here always stuff in there for a good price. Good luck with your build!
