Default Bad thermostat = ticking noise?

Car has been making a ticking noise for awhile. It started earlier this year.

Thought I had a bent pushrod, so I swapped them all, no dice. Thought I had an exhaust leak on the driver's side manifold. Swapped the gasket, no dice. Took the car to the exhaust shop, no exhaust leak. Guy blamed it on the aluminum block transferring the sound of my valvetrain. Most of my searches turned up that a little ticking from an LS1 is a normal thing, even though it is irritating. The only other thing it could be is a lifter IMO.

Skip to last Thursday. Thermostat was sticking. Car was running a steady 215-220* going down the Interstate at 70mph in 50* weather which isn't normal for my car. I knew it had to be the thermostat because I flushed my coolant system last year and everything had been fine until now (temp wise).

I changed out my thermostat (and housing since it's one piece for my year) on Saturday and since then I haven't heard the 'normal' tick from my motor. It's either gone or so quiet I can't hear it anymore.

What gives? This one has thrown me for a loop.
