I know there are people on here who say yes but I personally say

HELL NO!!!!!!!

the factory bolts are torque to yield and should only be used once. If you are a compleat cheap ***, at least by some new GM bolts. The next best is APR bolts and top of the line is to go main studs. I always look at it this way, "I just spent $___K on my motor, is saving $100 worth the risk of scrapping it all"

i never understood the philosophy of spending 2k on ported heads 3k on a rotating assembly, 800 on cam, pump, chain, ect. and then wanting to go cheap on bolts and bearings

Does ARP make a bolt kit or just the stud kit? Is there a GM part number for a complete kit for all the main bolts?

I could only find the main stud kit from arp.

Just curious as I will be going through this soon also.

thanks

Working in the fastener industry - I have to agree with above. For any engine application with decent power, why chance it?

HELL YES
I did this as well as many other people. The actual main cap bolts are not even torque to yield. The small ones in the side are but they are ok as long as you use a little lock-tite on them like they do from the factory.

Guys like the above will have you thinking your crank is gonna fall out, but it will be just fine even spinning over 7k.

ARP makes a bolt kit for the heads, but not the mains. There isn't a part # from GM for a head/main kit, but the number for the heads is 12498545. I don't know of a part # for a main bolt kit, but the two bolts you need are # 12560272 and #12560273.

The correct way to measure any fastener is to measure bolt stretch. The main bolts are tourque to angle, but not TTY. In my opinion , it seems a little silly to try and pinch pennys on a bottom end.

my bad....torque to angle....not torque to yield....

still......used factory bolts is just not a good idea (my feeling)
