LS1 Recommendations
I am interested in hearing how all of you would build a specific LS1 engine under these restrictions.
1. F body fitment.
2. Power band to be from 2000 to 6500 rpm.
3. CA legal.
4. RWHP 500 to 550.

To get those numbers, I think the easiest way would be some form of boost or spray. However, I'm not sure what goes and what does not with emissions out there, you're going to have to look into that.

It will need some kind of power adder and if you wanted that kind of power on the street than you are limited to a procharger. I don't think it is possible to achieve that kind of power in a carb legal NA package.

550 rwhp is going to take a lot more displacement without FI or N2O. ERL can wet sleeve your LS1 and get around 440 cubes. LS7 style heads (CARB Legal??), FAST Intake and you should be able to achieve your goals. Not going to be a cheap build.
Stroked LS3 would be an alternative as well. Not as much power as path above but less money.
Don't forget your drivetrain and suspension will need upgrades at this power level. What kind of budget are you working from?

Suspension is good.
I felt that much RWHP would be near impossible here in CA.
Maybe focusing on stock cubes with head / cam / induction development and see what it brings.
Passing CA smog is the tough one.
I figure the cost of buying or re-building an LS1 would be my maximum dollar investment.
Being able to change the induction system and keep cats in the stock location would probably be passible IF I design her to live in the stock RPM range.

Trust me, that idea has come up many a time.
Certain responsibilities have kept me here for sometime or I would have been gone long ago.
For now, I'll just see how far I can go before the smog ***** start peeking over the fence.
This site should have some sticky on the "ultimate CA smog LS1" lol.
All these sharp LS1 minds could put together a nice pump that would give the CA smog ***** fits but, pass with ease...
