Doing Cam and Heads,LT Headers worth the Money?
I think I am Going to Do the MTI 5.3 S2 and X1 cam.I was Thinking of switching my Mac Headers to Pacesetters Lt's But I was told that the gains wouldnt be worth the Money?I dont want to spend another $700.00 for Hookers ect.... That puts me out of my BudgetMaybe I should stay with the Macs until they puke? What Should I do?

AS long as the MACs are LT's, there is no real benefit. If the MACs are mid's or shorties, you should swap them out with LT's. From what I understand, the Pacesetters are pretty much the same design as the Hookers.

Stay with the Macs. There's been a few header tests in mags like Hot Rod, Car Craft, Pop Hotrodding where the mid-length or 3/4 length headers made more torque an HP than long tubes, to the editors' surprise. I doubt you'd ever see 40 lb/ft of torque under the curve going from Macs to LTs. Hell, you don't even get 40 lb/ft of torque when going from stock manifolds to LTs.

Stay with the MACs unless you absosutely have to wring the last few HP out of your combo. There are guys in the 10s with MACs and with a little weld grinding and collector work, they will flow damn close to LTs. You won't get the substantial low end gain of LTs, but you'll have saved over $500.

My bad, I meant 11s. I was typing and not thinking... Seriously tho, MAC makes a good street header that is perfectly adequate for the strip too. The only reason I went to LTs was because I had a specific HP # I wanted to hit. Thanks for catching my faux pas...

If I was you I would just do the heads. You might see another 10 hp with long tubes and another 5 hp with the X1 cam over your 224 cam. With what you have allready you should be into the elevens no problem.
Good luck.

I didnt know that. Thanks for the info.
I have always read that LT's are better in the long run in regards to the exhaust for the LS1. But if they work for you, cool. If it aint broke, dont fix it!!

Big Mike has run 9s with his Macs. But he has a custom y pipe to a cutout so hes doenst have a run of the mill setup. You could probably find Hookers used pretty cheap. Mine are uncoated and have had them for over a year and they dont have a spot of rust and I live in Chicago.
