Default 853 to 243 heads help!

Ok so i have a 2000 camaro ss with 853 heads and my buddy has an 06 gto with 243 heads and were going to swap our heads whats involved? What type head gaskets should we both use and mainly im concerned with the push rods, will i use my stock rods or should i use his rods and him use mine? Or will i need to order different rods? Thanks!!!

It's an easy swap. Direct bolt on swap, you just need head gaskets.

You will need head bolts and head gaskets. I would mill the heads for flatness before installing them.

LSX head bolts are torque to yield. Don't reuse them

Pushrods and rockers should all be the same.

Do not try this! You need new bolts, they are about 35 bucks a side. Your pushrods will be fine unless you mill the heads.

I believe they use two different type of head bolts. The 2000 will all be the same length and the 06s will be different lengths. You definately need new head bolts. The 2000s will probally cost more.

Your friend sounds crazy to me. 853's are a big downgrade from his stock 243's. Not to mention that his 243's are likely only worth $400ish assuming they're in decent shape. Yikes.

Anyways, as stated above, buy new ARP head bolts and dont look back. I agree with having the heads milled lightly to ensure proper seating of the heads. New gaskets are also a must. You're still looking at $150-200 in parts to swap the 243's on and that isn't considering milling costs/new pushrods.

You are gonna need to get the correct head gasket for the bore of the engine in this case.
