Default New combo is back together: home port 799, EPS cam, ported Fast 90mm

Cam should finally get here from Comp tomorrow. EPS 230/238 113+2. I've had the Fast intake on the car a while. Replaced my 853 junk with some 799s I got on here for $250 shipped.

Took some macro shots of the port work before the heads went on the car. Not the prettiest things but they are much smoother to the touch than they look. Some places I couldn't get to very well, did the best I could.

I spent 7 hours each on them as is (some time letting compressor rest and going over short turns by hand with sand paper). They were milled .010" to clean the mounting surfaces. Used Felpro stock thickness gaskets and ARP head bolts.

Intake ports (carbide cuts were made by a friend, I just went over the full ports with sanding rolls)

Exhaust ports (no cuts, just sanding roll work and removal of all large casting chunks, finished with 120 grit)

Chambers (half *** polishing to help prevent sharp edges and carbon buildup)

they look like they will flow better than they were in stock form... $250 for a set of 799's, really good deal if you ask me. are you going to do a VJ or are you just going to lap in the valves and bolt them on?

also curious how much did you pay (total price) to have them milled .010? (just curios)

I cleaned them with solvent and then lapped them extensively with course then fine compound.

It was only $40 to mill them. I just told him to clean them up, but we mic'd them before and after and he took .010" off.

Here is a video of the second start, warm idle on my old 230/224 tune with no changes:

Haven't even driven it yet. Cam got here at 3pm today, got it all back together and heat cycled the springs and everything.

Never noticed the subtle yet newer SS emblems. $250 for 799s, I wish deals happened like that around here.

Nice, I see you didn't waste any time getting the new part installed.
I look forward see what your new hp/tq is after a dyno tune!

BTW, love the blacked-out FAST intake!

I just recently put them on. Need to get some good new pictures with them.

I got the heads from the classifieds on this very site. 1 chamber had damage from a piston coming apart. It nearly polished completely out during porting/surfacing. Nothing worth losing sleep over. You just have to watch the classifieds like a hawk. Actually these were on there for 3-4 days before I paid him.

Can't wait to go drive the car in a bit and see how she does under light throttle anyway. I have a new base tune to load, just want to go easy especially with the 28# injectors still in it.

I installed it dot to dot. For the future I will order all the necessary parts for degreeing, a spring micrometer, and a ls specific spring compressor (had to borrow a proform, the old school stuff we have wouldn't fit the dual springs).

Just did my first log. MAF and injector duty cycle are showing my old peaks now occurring at 4880rpm instead of 6300rpm. By 5300rpm injectors are hitting 102% so I let out (stock 28#).

Torque is up drastically even down low where I expected a loss. Even fairly easy driving is enough to get some minor squeaks from the tires in first gear. I let it short shift into 2nd then quickly rolled in some throttle and it started trying to spin again.

It will be absolute torture to hold back until I can get 36-42# injectors and line the tune out.

I can't say enough good things about the SOTP difference, even being easy with it. Just rolling into the infamous 2nd gear dead spot (purposely keeping it from downshifting to first) it will start losing traction. It pulls harder than my old setup from everywhere. I love it and it's not even fully tuned and fed yet. Can't wait for some injectors so I can really hammer it.

What type of lobe was your last cam cut on? Do you think switching to an eps lobe made a big difference?
