Default Temp sensor for new heads

I was wondering what your suppose to use on the passenger side head? They both have holes but I only have one sensor for driver side. On the old heads its like sealed shut. Here is a pic of the old passenger side head.

youll need to get a plug for the passenger side head. Or run an aftermarket sensor if you have aftermarket guages

I have good news and bad news. Good news is yes you probably can get one local once you know the size and thread pitch. Bad news is I tried to figure that out for two weeks now to do an adapter for my temp sensor sending unit and came up short ( I just tapped the water pump). So I wish you lots of luck on finding out what that is. Do you not have the plug from the old head?

Default temp sensor

Hi I think Street and Performance(hot rod lane .com) sells and an adaptor for a mechanical aftermarket guage for the head, or I think I got an upper hose adaptor from transdapt if i remember correctly.

There is an allen head bolt or something plugging that hole. It is likely a 1/4 NPT. Home depot sells brass plugs for a few bucks in the plumbing section. Use teflon tape on the threads to seal them.

I wondered if it was 1/4 NPT I bought a 1/4 to 1/8 NPT adapter for my guage install and was going to use it on the passenger head. After about 10 seconds of eyeballing it I decided pulling the water pump and tapping it was a far better idea.

It's M10x1.5 I believe. I just got an adapter for my gauge a few weeks ago. I'll check to be sure.

During my head swap the plug on my old head had dirt on it and looked as if it wouldn't come out; but I found and allen wrench to fit it, gave it a good turn and what do you know it came loose. So before you go out searching I would at least look at that old passenger side head again to make sure that block out plug isn't covered with dirt or gunk.

Well the pic I posted is the one of the head. It is the big circle thing sticking out on the right. I will try those bolts but is it m12 or m10? lol

I don't see why not. Just put some teflon tape on it.
