Default 400+ what do i need?

I have a all stock 2000 ls1 camaro 6 speed, what should i do to get above the 400 mark, already thinking long tube headers and k&n filter, port and polish my heads. i want this car to be streetable but i want it to run some mean times at the track too so i don't want a huge cam but a good sized one, what do you think? what sized of intake and throtle body would be apropriate for that set up?
any help will be helpfull, thank you.

I've seen this question asked quite a bit on here...most folks recommend full bolt ons + a mild cam & tune. Try doing a search, you should find a ton of great threads that go over this pretty well.

This thread is a great place to start:

you don't need ported heads to make 400+rwhp with a ls1 .get a ls6 intake and a ported 78mm TB.look at a good cold air intake system ,and do a good flowing exhaust with a nice Y-pipe.maybe consider talking Patrick-G or Geoff at EPS for a good cam.what heads castings do you have ?you mite meet your goal with a TSP torquer 2 or 3 cam pkg

All bolt ons such as lid, ported throttle body, catback, longtube headers and a good all around size cam like the TSP 228/228 would definitely get you there. Throw in some port work on your heads and you will be over the 400hp mark for sure.

Just bolt ons, rowdy cam, and a tune. No problem.

you've got a 6 speed so it shouldn't be too rough to get there. For your headers, it's not the headers that bottom out (normally) its the y-pipe. Mine hangs extremely low. I would do a custom one with a flowmaster merge next time I change my exhaust, or just go true duals to the back. Like everyone else has said, full bolts ons and porting work should get you there with a 224 or 228 cam. A lot of vendors are very helpful on here and will get you your 400 mark with a cam and head set up.

get a set of 243 or 799 heads (ls6 casting) from ebay. they range from 300+ for a pair. get them cleaned up if nothing else. They are good in stock form for at least 20hp over the 853s. Or you can send them to AI and for 500 bucks they can work em over a little to bump up your compression. of course an underdrive pulley is good for a few hp as well.

imo dont look for a number, it doesnt mean anything, as far as what to go with it depends on your budget ,im also a fan of ebay headers, i know a few guys that run them and they are very nice, had to grind a lil more to get them to fit but they fit great , and after 2 years they still look killer, way better than my pacesetters. as for the cam , i have been shocked with how well the eps cams perform, there smaller profiles are making big cam numbers,as for heads it depends on your budget, these cars can be built on a budget just get a solid game plan together and stick to it,

check out this vid in the mm section,( my h/c/i trans am in mexico )members name is Texas Ls1,this vid just shows what a good setup can do, the main parts are ported 799s,pat g cam,s60 rear,fast92/92 setup. this car hauls major *** for a head and cam car,if you can put together the right combo you will have a pretty killer ride, what im trying to say is you dont need the best heads, best parts to make a fast car, just be smart and work on your combo , it takes time and by the time your done you will want to start something new, bigger cubes, turbo or spray etc, its just how it goes lol

Id do stock 243/799's, a high 22x, low 23x camshaft, and a ls6 intake with a ported tb.. A fast intake will make more of course but some cant see shelling out 600-1000 bucks for a fast when a ls6 usually makes 10-20 hp less

Im going for 400+ in my stalled auto. Ported fast 92, 95 mil tb, tsp 1 7/8, tsp ory, Borla cat back, torquer v3, yank ss3500, performabuilt level 2, the stall will eat up some of wheel hp but with a good tune I really think its possible for me in an auto. Your m6 will put down better numbers. Keep us posted.
